Top 15 Tips for the Golf Swing

Author: gnugent  |  Category: Golf Training

Golf swing tips can be found on-line or you can purchase one of the golf swing instructional e-books. Most of the tips on golf swing techniques in these guides have lots of details – more often than not – too much detail. If you have a swing fault, what you need are a few basic golf swing tips – whether it is to learn more about the short game in golf or to fix a slice.

5 Tips on How to Drive Long

To be able to shoot lower scores, one of the best ways is to gain more golf distance off the tee. When you have a shorter distance to the green you have more chance to score par or better. Naturally, you need accuracy as well as distance or you will be in a worse position to reach the green. The following 5 quick and easy tips will help you drive long off the tee:

(1) Position the ball off your leading foot’s instep and tee the ball up higher so that you hit the ball on the up-swing; (2) Resist trying to hit the ball with all your might – instead, use a steady rhythm and work on increasing your swing speed gradually; (3) Use the correct shaft flex for your swing speed – use a flexible shaft if you have a lower swing speed (stiffer for faster swing speed); (4) Cock your wrists early on the back-swing and release them just before impacting the ball; (5) On the backswing, turn your shoulders a full 90 degrees for maximum distance off the tee.

5 Tips on How to Master The Golf Irons

How to master golf irons is a subject that is often ignored. You will find many resources available to help you improve your driving or putting but not much importance is placed on golf iron play. With these 5 tips you will learn to dominate your golf irons:

(1) Practice on the driving range to know your average distance with each golf iron in your bag; (2) Use the right iron for the distance you want to hit it and use a full swing; (3) Take into account the wind strength and distance as well as other factors like height and slopes; (4) Playing from the rough is different from playing from the fairway – you will need to adjust the ball position, stance, iron loft, and attack angle; (5) Learn proper course management – going for the pin is sometimes not the best option.

5 Tips on How to Improve Your Golf Short Game

One of the most important areas of the golf game is the golf short game. If you are able to hit long and accurate drives, that is great, but if you can’t chip or pitch the ball on the green, all that effort will be wasted. The short game of golf is where you really need to practice, so check out the following 5 tips:

(1) From under 50 yards, use a bump and run and get the ball rolling as soon as possible; (2) Use a slightly open stance and place your feet closer together; (3) Choose one club (7, 8, or 9 iron) and practice your chipping from different distances with it; (4) The length of your backswing will determine the distance the ball will travel; (5) When playing over a hazard, use a more lofted club with a pitching swing.

The above 15 tips on golf swing techniques cover 3 areas of the game that are important but there are other areas that you have to master. They are learning how to cure a slice or hook (if you have these swing faults,) bunker or sand trap play, putting, and pitching. As golf is an all round game, you have to be proficient in every aspect of the game to succeed. You can’t just concentrate on how to be a long drive champion; you have to practice with every club in your bag.

Where To Choose A Golf Club

If you want to get involved in the sport of golf, of course you are going to want to have the best results possible. This means taking the time to properly choose your golf club. Depending on your stance, height, gender, and other personal characteristics, this is what you are going to have to use to determine which golf club is going to be right for you.

When you are not aiming with the right club, you are simply not going to get the best results. This is going to be your key piece of equipment, and so you really need to make sure that you spend an adequate amount of time selecting the right one for you.

Height

The height of the golf club is going to be one of the most determining factors here. After all, a 6-foot tall man is going to want a different sized club than a 5-foot woman. You are going to need to be able to stand comfortably while holding the club so that you have enough room to grasp it so that your hands are not cramped up together.

Brand

Although you do not have to go out and buy the best brand name golf club out there, you do need to be aware that brand names hold a great importance in most sports equipment, and the same is most definitely true when it comes to golf clubs. The more familiar the name such as Titleist, then the better off you are going to be because you can be assured of the quality of the equipment.

Even most of the top professional golf players use the Taylor Made clubs, and so it gives the general population a feeling of well being and know that they are not investing their money on something that is simply not worthwhile.

Price

Of course one factor that you cannot just forget about when it comes to shopping for a golf club is the price. You can only buy what you can afford after all, an so you are going to need to be aware of the budget that you are working with and make sure you do not go over it. There are tons of great golf clubs out there to choose from and so you never have to worry about having to spend an arm and a leg just to get what you need.

You really should never get a used golf club, just because it is not worth it when you could spend a bit more and get one brand new.

Golf courses

Golf courses

Golf is a sport that is originally thought to have originated in Bruntsfield Links, in Edinburgh, Scotland. In this game, a player hits the ball into each hole using many different types of clubs by using a minimum number of strokes. It is a game that is not played on a standardized area, but instead it is played on golf courses, and each golf course may be different and unique from other golf courses.

A golf course will contain a chain of holes that are scattered around the ground. The course also consists of a fairway, teeing ground, rough, and other hazards that will act as obstacles, which the player has to overcome. Usually a basic round of golf will consist of 18 holes. But some golf courses also have nine holes, and the game is played in two rounds, or in some other courses there may be 27 or 36 holes and the player can choose two different sets of nine holes each and the game may be played.

The first section of every hole will consist of a small area known as the teeing box or the teeing ground. While some teeing areas are mostly as level as possible, others are raised slightly above the surrounding fairway. After the initial teeing, the player then again hits the ball from the place where it came to rest. The area that is in between the teeing ground and the putting green is known as the fairway. The putting green is the ground on which the player will putt, or play by hitting the ball with a putter. The grass in the putting green is cut very short. This is done to allow the ball to roll for a longer distance.

Also included on the golf courses are various hazards, which can be mainly of three types, water hazards like lakes or rivers, man-made hazards like bunkers or sand traps, and natural hazards that can be the dense vegetation on the golf course.

Golf Tips for Driving Straight

There are lots of great Golf Tips Online that you could learn about, such as golf driving range tips, but if you really want to improve your game, you are going to want to get some ideas on golf tips for driving straight. When you learn golf tips for driving straight you know that you are going to have the most success with your game because the drive is the main shot in your game.

Sure putting is important too but the drive is the power shot that is going to get you started and hopefully get you onto the green. With the enormous drivers that are available today, it has never before been easier to hit the ball a long way. But there are a few golf tips for driving straight that you are going to want to keep in mind so you will have an accurate shot.

One of the best Golf Tips for driving straight is to train your aim. This means that you have to understand the railroad alignment analogy if you want to have success here. Basically you want to use the image of yourself standing on railroad tracks to make sure that you are going to drive the ball straight.

Now imagine that the railroad tracks are completely straight and that a big train is coming at you right from the end of it. Keep this image in your mind as you prepare for your shot, and continue to keep focus on it as you power off your shot.

Another great tip is to lag for power. Casting the golf club from the top of the swing is one of the most common power leaks, so you want to avoid this as best as you can. Remember, the more power the better when it comes to your drive, but of course accuracy is key here. Lagging for power is really the secret move for more power on your drive.

Another of the best Golf Tips for driving straight is to drive it a mile. Although it is okay for you to move a bit off the ball in the backswing, you really want to remember that if you want to transfer the maximum amount of power into the ball, then you are going to want to make sure that you are not swaying too far either way, backwards or forwards.

Golf Clubs

Golf Clubs

The golf clubs are one of the most important golf equipments. They are used to hit a golf ball. Each of the golf clubs are made up of a long shaft, which is a tapered tube that is usually made up of metal such as steel or graphite; a lance, or also called as grip, which help the player to hold the club better; and finally the club head, which is mainly responsible for hitting the ball.

There are basically three major types of golf clubs, known as the woods, irons and the putters. The club wood is a long distance club and it is used to play long shots, either from the tee or the fairway, and it drives the ball to a great distance. Woods were generally made using Persimmon wood, although presently they use a variety of materials like carbon fiber, or metals like steel or titanium. Irons are used for precision shots either from the fairway or from the rough. They have a short, flat angled face, and their shaft is shorter than that of a wood. They were made using cast iron, and hence were called as irons. Putters are mostly used when playing on the greens, but can also be used when playing from the bunkers or also for some approach shots. These putters are a special type of golf clubs, which have a loft that is not more than 10 degrees. It is designed in such a way that the ball can be easily rolled along on the grass from a certain point to the cup.

There are also certain other type of golf clubs called as the Wedges and the Hybrids. Wedges are the same as irons, but they will have a higher loft when compared to a 9 iron. There are mainly four types of wedges called as the pitching wedge, gap wedge, sand wedge and a lob wedge. These wedges are used for a variety of shots such as shots that are short- distance and at high- altitude, and require high accuracy. Hybrids are the type of golf clubs that are a cross between a wood and an iron and hence provide the required long distance of a wood as well as the familiar swing of an iron. These clubs are also referred to as “Rescues”.

Where and when did the game of golf originate?

Author: gnugent  |  Category: Golf News

The game was first recorded way back in the year 1297. This was surprisingly said to have been in the Netherlands. The game was played with a rough stick and a leather ball. Whoever hit the ball the furthest and in the least number of times was considered to be the winner.

The modern game of golf is however thought to have started in Scotland. The word golf was probably derived from the Dutch word “kolf” which means stick or club. The very first 18 hole golf course was also in Scotland. Also the first written rules were said to have come from the Scots.

It was not long before the game had spread to England. It is said that the oldest playing golf course in the world is the Old Links at Musselburgh in East Lothian. It was said that Mary Queen of Scots played there back in 1567.

However golf courses have not always been 18 holes. Early golfers at St Andrews made a trench through the rough land playing just eleven holes which were laid out end to end from the clubhouse to the far end of the property. Once reaching the end they would turn round and play back therefore making a total of 22 holes. Gradually it was decided that some of the holes were in fact too short so they became integrated and ended up as 18 holes as we know it today.

Golf equipment has developed markedly over the years It was in the 1930’s that the US Golf Association set a standard weight and size for all golf balls. It was stated that the velocity of the golf ball should not exceed 250 feet per second and since this time it has continued to develop and make an impact on the way in which the game is played.

Another big factor the evolution of the golf club. The early ones were made from wood. Hickory became the standard wood used for shafts and Persimmon was the choice of wood for the club head mainly due to its hardness and strength. As the golf ball developed and became much more durable it was then that the iron headed clubs were first introduced to the game. Steel shafts were said to have been developed in the 1890’s .

It was in the early 1970’s shaft technology was introduced to the use of graphite shafts with lightweight titanium heads which meant the head could be made much larger.

The equipment has been developed massively with the help of modern day technology and today we have more golf equipment than you would have imagined possible. Our forbears were not lucky enough to have such things as golf trolleys and golf buggies to transport them round the course. However one thing that probably has stood the test of time is the sociable drink at the 19th hole at the end of a round of golf!
