The PurePoint Golf swing theory points you in the right direction and gives you a system of fundamentals to measure yourself against. In golf this is very important; but situations arise where you just can’t figure out why you are having certain difficulties. Whether your issue is hitting behind the ball or hitting the ball thin, sometimes we are clueless to where the problem lies.

We teach a fairly horizontal swing plane compared to most. Even though there are major benefits to this version of the golf swing certain complications can arise very quickly. This tip in particular was designed to keep golfers from striking behind the ball. My objective is to inform you of all areas of the golf swing, so that when certain situations come up, you can adjust accordingly. And ultimately check points pre established.

  • The player(s) back shoulder in his/her backswing dips down; meaning that the back shoulder is dipping towards the ground. This is difficult to do when you have no lateral movement or weight shift back and away from the target, as we teach. However, this is very common among players that have a horizontal swing plane. The common tendency is to lower the back shoulder as your swing plane becomes more horizontal.
  • Please know that if you dip your back shoulder in your backswing this could cause many different problems in you swing. Your timing, hand position at impact, weight shift through the ball, and the follow-through position could all be negatively affected.

Solution

  • Fortunately there is simple solution. Venture to the practice range and take a golf ball. Place the golf ball underneath your back foot (please make sure that ½ the ball is in the ground so that you don’t topple over). If a ball doesn’t feel right use a towel or something that is at least an inch off the ground. The ball/object should be placed underneath your back heel in order to ensure that you have no weight transfer and that your back shoulder does not dip in the backswing.
  • Then just take your normal swing. If you choose you can hit a ball or you can just take a couple practice swings. Focus on not dipping your shoulder in your backswing (keep your back shoulder up and not down). I guarantee that if you master this drill you’ll make solid contact with the ball on a more consistent basis.
  • This drill will force you to practice a swing with no weight shift back and away from your target and simultaneously help you with lowering your back shoulder.

Practice this drill and be aware that if you are having trouble hitting behind the ball at any point in your round, the problem could lie in shoulder position in your backswing. To learn more go to PurePoint Golf Instruction

You necessitate to be consistent if you want to play better golf. For improving your game you have to practice to perform swing regularly. Normal practice will help you to develop a perfect swing. For a perfect swing you need flexibility as well as strength. Both of these things work in synergism and in this way your game improves.Flexibility will also prevent some injuries.Golf is considered as game which is not considered strenuous but a golfer needs regular work outs for better functioning and more power.Flexibility exercises melt off the stress on muscles which are used in playing golf such as lower back, shoulders, elbows, wrists, hands and hips.Normal muscles extending exercises also remove the blockage in movement.

Useful golf aids such as golf trainers come in two forms:dual hinge golf trainers and weighted golf trainers. These golf training aids are available in drivers, irons and wedges.Dual hinge swing trainers are unique in that they have a hinge on the club that provides instant feedback when your swing is incorrect. An incorrect swing is detected when it is out of tempo and timing and when it is out of the proper swing plane.Instant feed back is provided when a flaw is detected either in your take away, back swing, down swing or follow through as if one of the three components is out of sync (tempo, timing or correct golf swing plane), the hinge opens up and the club breaks at the hinge. You therefore at once know your mistake and can practice on your very next swing not to make it again.

Golf Fitness Assists Generate Extra Speed In Your Swing!

Author: gnugent  |  Category: Golf News

The golfing industry speaks about clubhead speed constantly. We see advertised inside the golf magazines every the period. We hear about it on the Golf Channel endlessly

Clubhead speed is more a result of what you do with the golf club than an entity of its own. A driver is not going to generate clubhead speed on its’ own! Someone has to swing it!

Clubhead speed is contingent upon swing speed. Swing speed is directly related to the person swinging the golf club. So the question to in fact ask is:

How Do I Develop Huge Gains inside My Swing Speed?

Another term directly related to swing speed and clubhead speed is power.

Extra Power = More Swing Speed = Extra Clubhead Speed

Bottom line is we are looking to increasing the strength outputs of your golf swing. This will allow for an increase in swing speed. An enhance inside swing speed translates to extra clubhead speed.

So how do we boost the power in our golf swing?

Two aspects need tuning and development of you wish to increase the power in your golf swing.

-  Number One: Boost Your Swing Mechanics

-  Number Two: Increase Your Body

Developing optimal swing mechanics is the first part of the equation to magnificent power.

The golf swing is one of the most not easy, finite, and complex athletic movements performed. As a result, it requires period spent on the refinement of the movements involved.

A few athletic movement, the golf swing included, can be performed efficiently or inefficiently.

An efficient golf swing allows for the highest percentage of strength generated by the golfer to be translated into the club, and delivered into the golf ball. An inefficient golf swing decreases the amount of strength delivered to golf swing.

Efficient Golf Swing Mechanics = High Power Outputs

Inefficient Golf Swing Mechanics = Low Power Outputs

A pretty simple equation if you believe about it.

At this moment how do you develop efficient golf swing mechanics?

Through a procedure of proper instruction, proper handling, and period. The body can learn either the exact or incorrect way to swing a golf club. In order to learn the exact way to swing a golf club, proper instruction is required.

Secondly, the body learns through repetition. Inside order to learn efficient golf swing mechanics it is required to handling the correct way to swing. In conclusion, this process takes time.

The body will not learn how swing a golf club correctly inside a day. It takes consistent era spent on the swing.

Putting it in math terms, the equation for efficient golf swing mechanics is:

Proper Instruction + Proper Exercise + Period = Efficient Golf Swing Mechanics

Unfortunately, efficient golf swing mechanics is simply one-half of the equation to increasing clubhead speed, swing speed, and power.

The second half is your body.

The golf club cannot develop strength on its own. It is a combination of developing efficient golf swing mechanics and a body that be able to generate power.

A Body that can Generate Power = Increased Clubhead Speed

Your body swings the club through the mechanics of the golf swing. In order to perform this efficiently and powerfully requires the development of certain disciplines within your body.

Generating strength in the golf swing requires your body to be:

-  Flexible

-  Strong

-  Powerful

The development of these three disciplines within your body allows the foundation to swing the golf club with more power.

If your body is inflexible, weak, and powerless, generating clubhead speed will be very not easy, allow alone performing the mechanics of the golf swing correctly. How do you develop such a body for the golf swing?

Quite just by implementing a golf fitness program. A golf fitness program will develop the necessary flexibility, power, and strength required of the golf swing.

It comes down to this equation:

Efficient Golf Swing Mechanics + A Flexible, Strong, & Powerful Body = Increased Clubhead Speed

Put in place a plan to develop efficient golf swing mechanics and a powerful body. The swing speed and clubhead speed you prefer can be a reality. Remember; proper instruction, practice, era, and golf fitness training are the keys to extra strength, extra swing speed, and more clubhead speed.

Help Your Golf Swing, Help Your Golf Score

Most golfers will say the hardest part of their game is focus. The mental side of golf is often misunderstood. Ever noticed the guy who breaks 80 every single time? Why is that? Practice makes perfect. What they don’t tell you, is what they practice at. When you are talking about a game that is referred to as 90% mental and 10% talent you have to work on your mental toughness. When overcoming that mental side of golf, do you try to change your equipment, the time at which you play, maybe even they guys you play with. Here we go, some tips that are going to help get you on your way to being a better golfer.

The tempo of golf is often a concern for golfers. You are stuck behind a slow foursome, or maybe the guys behind you are rushing you, and you feel that pressure to golf faster. Well Tempo of the game should never affect the tempo of your swing. Swing tempo is important if you want consistent results in your game. How do I find my tempo you ask? A golfer can find their tempo by doing these simple things:

SLOW DOWN!! Let me say this again SLOW DOWN, if you just swing faster and harder you are not going to get the results you are looking for. This is true is some instances, but, for the sake of this article we will not be discussing those concepts. The tempo we are talking about today, how you are going to have the same back swing, contact point, and follow through no matter what club you are using or what part of the course you are playing from. How are you going to practice this TEMPO? Go to the driving range and practice with one club at a time. First hit 20 range balls with your driver, next hit 20 range balls with your 9 iron, Next your 3 wood and your 8 iron follow this method until you have hit every club in your bag. In your back Swing you want to make sure you are coming to the same point every time. When you contact the ball make sure you are contacting the ball at the same rate of speed with every club. People often think that the club should dictate your tempo, this could not be further from the truth. You really want to be swinging all of your clubs at the same speed, you will see great improvement on how well you make contact with the ball. Follow through is the same as your back swing you need to follow through the same on every shot. How you follow through directly affect your accuracy. When you focus on these three techniques you will find that your mental game will improve.

This is a three step process after you are done at the driving range it is time to head to the chipping green. You will want to work with your Wedge, 60deg, 8I, and 9I. You need to use every club for at least 100 chips. When you start in the deep stuff focus on yout tempo and making sure you land every ball on the green. If you are hitting the ball with the same tempo every time, your chipping will be more accurate. Remember chipping should be another tool in your arsenal and not the final result. Many careers have been made from singles and doubles hitters it is not just the home run hitters that decide how games turnout. Chipping will achieve greater results if you shoot for the green not the hole. The 8i and 9i will be used to work out the tempo of the bump and run technique. Tempo here is the key still but keep in mind that now you have too much club for such a short distance. Your tempo is what matters!! Imagine you are still hitting that same wedge, Change the Club not the Tempo!!

Putting Putting Putting! Why is this a hard thing to understand? We have now gone from Driving range tempo to chipping tempo to putting tempo the TEMPO does not change only the environment. What you want to practice here is the same thing! You want to work on your tempo. You putt the same every time, you will not be changing your swing ever. The only part about putting that changes is the distance. Start with 10 balls and putt then in from 1ft away from the hole. Move your self out 1ft for every 10 balls you sink in a row. Keep the same tempo.

The goal for these exercises is to teach your to go through the same steps every time. When you are working on you tempo you need to understand that you are separating your self from the game; you are working on you. Seeing results is going to depend on how much time you take to find your tempo!! The game is 90% mental; set a clock in your mind that only allows for the same tempo no matter when or where you are golfing. Create memory for your body and your mind will follow.

Getting custom fit golf clubs

Author: gnugent  |  Category: Golf News

Every golfer’s physical capability and swing is distinctive. Many of today’s best golf clubs can be custom fit for lie angle, shaft type and length, grip type and size. Custom fitting golf clubs involves several easy measurements and a quick self-assessment of your game. This custom golf club has become more than a fad that even not so professional golfers test its waters.

Custom fitting is the process for tailoring a golf club to suit your personal swing.

Whatever your level, with a custom golf club the aim is to ensure that if you do make a good swing, the club will be square at impact and should produce a straight shot.

Custom Golf Club How To’s:

To custom fit your golf clubs, you need to know: your gender (male or female); your height in your stockings or socks; the distance from your wrist (where it bends) to the floor with your shoes off; your age; your handicap or skill level; how fast you swing a golf club; what club you use at the 150 yard marker.

Gender is used to put you into the correct fitting scale for custom golf clubs. The golf industry uses different definitions of “standard length” for men and women.

Your height and the distance in inches from your wrist to the floor are used together to determine the length of a custom golf club that is appropriate for you. The starting point for club length can vary up to 3 ½-inch ranging from ladies to men plus 1 ½-inch. A tall person with long arms can very easily require shorter clubs than an average height person with short arms. Estimates are that about 80 percent of all golfers are of a standard length.

Your age, handicap (if you happen to have one), self-assessed skill level, estimated golf swing speed and club you use at the 150 yard marker are all combined to determined the custom golf club’s shaft flex that is appropriate for you.

A custom fit club can fix your slice. If you slice the ball, this means that the toe of the club is leading into the ball which opens the face of the club. That may be down to a swing fault, but it could be because the club is too flat. So when in the custom fitting process you can make the custom golf club more upright to help with this. This will mean that the toe of the club will be slightly off the ground at address to compensate.

There are different ways of fitting according to custom golf club dealers but ultimately they are all trying to improve your game. To start with simple measurements such as wrist-to-floor, height and hand size are taken and will point you to the right size club and at what angle it should be to the ground. Then you will take a club and hit some balls. One method is to place impact tape on the bottom of the custom golf club and an impact board on the floor.

As you hit the ball the board will leave a mark on the tape showing whether the heel or the toe of the custom golf club is striking the floor first. The resulting mark will show whether the club face needs to be flatter or more upright. Then things get a bit more advanced. Analysis equipment can measure everything from your club speed to the side spin of the ball so that you can get maximum distance from your shot. You should also measure the launch angle of the ball, how much backspin you generate and impact efficiency – all which affect distance. The angle in which the custom golf club approaches the ball and the sidespin of it can help fix your game too.

Why don’t you start from scratch, instead of bringing down your old clubs,. It’s a big mistake to think that custom fitting is only for the best golfers. Anyone can benefit. That said, if you plan to upgrade a new set of clubs with the same manufacturer they may be able to adjust your old set to become custom golf clubs.

Custom fitting won’t cure all your bad shots. Some regural coaching will sort that out. Once you do make a good swing, then the custom golf club will arrive correctly at impact and should produce a straight shot at your target. That alone will save shots during a round.

Lastly, custom fitting is often free of charge. But it is usually on the condition that you buy some golf clubs once you’ve been fitted. So it really depends on what your budget is. If you’re prepared to buy a new set of clubs it’s definitely worth getting fitted.

How To Improve Your Golf Swing

Author: gnugent  |  Category: Golf News

Watching a pro golfer hit a beautiful, straight and long drive can either be really inspirational or really frustrating. Learning how to swing the club is a vital skill for aspiring golfers of any skill level or age. Take advantage of these quick tips to help improve your swing and your entire golf game:

1) You’ll need to focus on the task without over thinking things to ensure a fluid, accurate swing.

2) Keeping your head down is very important. You need to hone your vision onto your target, which is where the golf ball is laying. Don’t look at where you’ll be hitting it and keep your head down throughout the entire swing.

3) It’s important to follow through with all of your strokes, maintaining your swing until a later point. Beginners commonly stop their motion as soon as they strike the ball, but following through will greatly increase distance and power.

4) You should work on lengthening your swing, which means keeping your arms all the way extended and operating through a full range of motion.

5) Many people don’t rotate properly while aligning their backswing. It’s important that you achieve a complete, proper and tight rotation so that you maintain accuracy and strength.

6) Of course of huge importance is the ability to transfer the energy from your body to the ball, producing a strong and lengthy drive. If you keep your weight on your back foot you won’t generate or transfer as much energy. Transfer your weight to your front foot making it easier to apply your force to your drive.

Nothing can instantly improve your golf swing besides spending a lot of time practicing. You may never be able to drive the ball 300 yards like the pros do, but you can significantly increase your driving length and accuracy with the proper tools. Follow these tips to help jumpstart your game and improve your swing.

Add Yards To Your Drives – Fix Golf Slice

Author: gnugent  |  Category: Golf News

Fix golf slice is a thought on many amateur golfers’ minds.  Studies reveal over 80% of all amateur golfers slice the ball.  There have been more training aids, drills and tips to fix the golf slice that I can’t even begin to count.

What a frustrating situation!  Do you realize what’s causing your golf slice? If you hit a golf slice, have you taken lessons; bought any training aids, and done several drills only to still hit a slice?

Upon first thought, this may seem like a mechanical issue.  And it is…but if you dig a little deeper, you’ll find it’s a ‘physical’ issue. A golf slice is caused by the clubface coming across the ball from outside the target line, creating side-spin on the ball.

If your body has ‘physical limitations’, your swing will not be mechanically sound and swing faults will appear. You see…your body dictates your ability to swing the club efficiently.

If you can’t make a 90 degree shoulder turn on the backswing, you’ll do whatever it takes to feel like you are making a full turn. In the golf swing there are many compensations for lack of proper mechanics.

What this does is rob you of power.  You have no torque built up in your core to unleash into the ball at impact. A good example of this would be to rotate your hips beyond the desired 45 degrees to enable your body to make a full backswing.

A golf slice is caused by the upper body getting ahead of the lower body, creating an “over-the-top” move, which in turn results in your clubface slashing across the ball and creating side-spin.  Here comes the banana ball!

Your first inclination will be to take a lesson to fix this.  If that doesn’t work, you might buy a training aid.  If that doesn’t work you’ll buy an “offset” driver to help eliminate your golf slice.

Don’t buy anymore training aids.  And keep your normal driver in your bag. Now the real answer!  Take a break on your lessons.

It’s that simple.  The minute your able to separate the upper and lower body upon initial move down…you’ll see that golf slice improve dramatically. You need to work on you core rotational flexibility to be able to initiate the downswing with your lower body first, to avoid the upper body getting ahead of it.

A golf slice is a weak shot that does not penetrate the air for maximum distance. Along with fixing your golf slice, you’ll add up to 30 yards to your drives.  You will get more roll when the ball lands from a draw ball flight.

All of my programs, dvds, and books focus on core rotational strength and flexibility which will improve your power output and eliminate swing faults.  You will not experience compensations on the golf course anymore.

You will finally eliminate the thought, “fix golf slice”. When you work on your “machine”, your golf swing takes care of itself!

Beginners Guide To The Different Golf Club Types

Author: gnugent  |  Category: Golf News

After 20 years living on a golf course, you’d think I would know the different golf club types. It wasn’t until recently when I started playing golf where I learned the purpose of the various clubs. If you’re a beginner like me, let’s get to know what each of the golf clubs are for and when to use them.

There are 3 material types of golf clubs: Woods, Irons, and Hybrids. Some will say Wedges and Putters are types also but for this article I’m including them as sub-types because of their specific use.

Woods, Irons, and Hybrids

Woods are golf clubs whose club heads were initially made of wood. Today there are also made of metal like steel or titanium alloy and still go by the name of woods. A woods golf club has a fat club head and the club’s main purpose is for hitting the golf ball off the tee or down the fairway.

Irons are golf clubs which have flat club heads that are made of metal. Besides hitting the golf ball off the tee or down the fairway, an irons most useful purpose is to get the golf ball into the air and over obstacles like trees or lift the ball out of grass.

Hybrid golf clubs have metal club heads that combine the best features of woods and irons. Their combined features make them more forgiving to amateur players. Hybrids usually replace the 2-5 irons.

Club Head Numbers

Aside from specialty golf clubs like wedges and putters, golf club heads are numbered 1 through 11. The lower the number, the taller the golf club, the club head face has a steeper sloping angle, and the golf ball travels farther. The higher the club head number gets, the golf club gets shorter, the club head face has a lesser sloping angle so the golf ball goes steeper into the air, and the golf ball flies less distance.

Of the same club head number, woods are taller than irons and hybrids, has a steeper club face angle, and hits the golf ball farther.

Typically golf professionals use a 1 wood, also known as a driver, on their tee shot to hit the golf ball as far as they can down the fairway. For recreational players, it’s best to use higher numbered clubs because they’re shorter and much easier to control your golf swing.

Wedges and Putters

Wedges are irons that are used for lifting your golf ball out of grass, sand traps, and over obstacles like bunkers. There are 4 types of wedges: pitching, sand, gap, and loft. Each has its purpose based on the situation you’re in. But in the order I have listed, the club face angle gets less steep and the golf ball flies higher into the air at a steeper angle.

You might use a pitching wedge to get the ball out of the grass next to the green. You don’t need a lot of lift, just enough to get over the grass and onto the green. On the other hand, if your golf ball is in a deep bunker next to the green, you would use a loft wedge to lift the ball at a sharp angle upward and over the bunker onto the green.

The putter is primarily used when your golf ball is on the green and you’re shooting for the hole. The putter has 3 styles of club heads: traditional blade, heel-toe, or mallet. For beginners, the mallet is the preferred putter because its design makes it easier to hit the ball with greater success.

If you’re thinking of taking up golf and haven’t purchased golf clubs, it’s best to start with beginners or starter golf club sets. These clubs provide the proper balance for you to learn and enjoy golf.

Gripping the Golf Club

Author: gnugent  |  Category: Golf News

The grip seems very basic, but could very well be the most important part of the swing.Improper tension in your golf grip can throw your entire swing off.  Having an improper grip can greatly detract from the power and accuracy of the swing, and for the advanced golfer, it can hamper the way they try to shape a shot.

You should never hold the club hand over hand like a baseball bat, or axe handle.  The interlocking is where the golfer slides his left index finger between the ring and pinkie fingers of the right hand. The left index finger will lay on top of the right pinkie or on top of ht notch between the pinkie and ring fingers, this is the overlapping grip. The grips encourage the hands to steady the club throughout the swing.

The grip should begin about one finger width from the end of the club, or more, for shorter controlled shots. The club should lie along the callous pad line of the hands, not in the palms.  When the hands are closed around the club, the thumbs should be aligned straight down the club grip. The forearms come together to form a V toward the club.

Your grip should be firm enough to keep the club from moving in your hands, but otherwise very loose.Don't tighten your grip through the swing, keep the "loose grip" in our mind throughout.Experimentation and repetitive practice will help the golfer find the right grip.

As with everything else, practice will make the grip become second nature.  It is not something that should require as much thought as other aspects of the golf swing, but its importance should never be forgotten.  It is recommended that a golfer always keep a club nearby, and just practice applying and reapplying the grip over and over.
